I don't raid in WoW Cataclysm. I pvp! I am not on other people's schedules, nor worried about getting gear. I just buy pvp vendor gear. No strings attached and completely self reliant outside of the BG.

It rekindled my interest in WoW because raiding made me listen to people rage and epeen over Vent.

The bliss that is Gnome Punting! :)

I love exploring the worlds of MMOs and building a character and collecting gear - but thats only half or less of a game it seems. Im paying for the whole thing - other players are off raiding instead of sharing the other experiences 'casually'. I cannot for the life of me finish a raid, if i can even get into one. I dont have time to persuade others to let me into their guild/raids, and I know the loot system is this way to string consumers along to keep playing and paying for their carrot. I cant figure out why people keep raiding instead of voting with their dollars to stop its production, and get back to producing more expansion content with the time saved from making raid content.

Yippee, that is exactly why I didn't get suckered in by WotLK expansion, and won't be lured in by Cataclysm. I know I'd enjoy the leveling, but be pissed off when I got to the raiding.

I agree with this posters general thinking. I like the journey to the "end game" but then the gamechanges and game play is much more different than the journey. If I wanted to switch games i would. I feel that the dev's owe it to the subs to continually add content that rivals the original journey.

Is there any games on the market that anyone would suggest? I heard Fallen Earth has no raiding and that the best items in the game can be crafted which sounds like music to my ears but then trying the game i found it lacking in journey...

I know the post is old but the problem is still there, and only getting worse. Take Cataclysm, sounds like a wonderful journey but I am hesitant to take it because I know I will end up at the same brick wall of game play that I am at now.

Aislingi, to everything you posted all I can really say is:

/agree

Regarding Dailies specifically: I have seen this concept implemented well, and poorly.

Well: When your game has a small number (like 2 or 3) of special "daily mission" NPCs. Doing these daily missions can have a large reward, because you can only do a small number of them per day. Thus, doing them seems special - almost a reward for playing (Examples: Primordiax, Anarchy Online).

Badly: Hundreds of Daily missions that feel like punching in on a timeclock at a factory. You have to spend hours a day doing "dailies" to make money for all the consumables, armor repairs, etc. you need for raiding. Ugh. Barf. (Examples: WoW).

Players use pretty words like "progression".
However, what it really is, is pushing a giant stone wheel slowly up an infinitely tall mountain.
Or a piece of cheese, at the end of an ever expanding maze.

I loath WoW raiding.
It seems just about all of WoW's systems are generated by time sinking elitists, for elitists.
Everything WoW devs do, seems to enforce a mentality of lording something over someone else.
The loot system is a lazy one. An antiquated system, of providing just enough loot, to keep the sheep coming back every week. To make the most out of minimum content.

And for what?
To have it all become obsolete in a matter of months?
I have no idea why, right now, people are fighting so hard for Icecrown stuff, when it all becomes garbage in a month or two.

I quit, because all WoW was for me was:
DailiesDailiesDailiesRaidDailiesRaidDailiesDailiesRaid

It certainly didn't help that Raids are like Michael Bay directed square dances.
