MMO Gaming Terminology Dictionary

I started a project over at Bright Hub to build up a dictionary of MMO Gaming terms. Right now it is broken up into three sections:

MMO Gaming Dictionary – Combat Terminology

MMO Gaming Dictionary – Character Terminology

MMO Gaming Dictionary – General Terminology

Then I created a place where people can go to post their own new ones:

Add your own!

What do you all think of the idea, and how are we doing so far? What else would you add?

I wanted to add Grind, but you already got “Grinding”. Nice job to allow people to comment without logging in! :)

  • Had a quick look at the Character terminology one yesterday and couldn’t think of anything to add offhand. Will check the others. Say, the RL address details BH asked me for *will* remain private, right?

You should add a pvp section. Here’s some pvp terms to get you started.

Newbie: somebody who is new to the game, and thus unskilled at it.
Noob: somebody who is not new to the game, yet still unskilled at it. Also known as a scrub.
Carebear: a noob that believes everybody should suck as much as they do.
Pwn: to make somebody your bitch.
    Hacker/Griefer/Cheater/etc: somebody that pwns you.

Muckbeast, in case you are still alive – you wanted to hear more about villages who stopped Google Streetview cars. The inhabitants of Broughton in Buckinghamshire, UK, did it:

  • Kudos to them!

Incidentally, at IMGDC this past weekend I met someone who works for Google. He told me that all you have to do is ask google to take down the picture of your house, business, anything you own, and they will comply.

While the idea still worries me a bit, the fact that you can easily get your own property removed does allay my concerns a bit.
