Now using Akismet
Things are going really well with the new Muckbeast. We are averaging about 600 unique visitors per day now, which is better than ever on Today. The downside of popularity is spam! We have started receiving a number of spam comments, so I decided to enable Akismet, which is an intelligent spam filter for comments.
I hate having to do this, as I worry about real comments getting flagged. If you post a comment and notice it not showing up, please email me: muckbeast ** gmail ** com.

OK, I feel threatened. Intelligent SPAM filter usually filter 100% of my postings. Oh my… but well, let’s see what Akismet will do with THIS very posting here.
It seems it works.
You don’t have to get people to email you – just check the spam folder – you will get quite a few false positives – Ive had blogs of mine flagged before – it only seems to take someone to spam you for no good reason and you are askimet toast!
What Lis said. You’ll get a few real comments marked as spam and a few genuine spam comments it won’t be sure of. For the most part though, I’ve found it fairly accurate and hassle-free. At any rate, nobody’s mailed me asking irately why I’m not letting their comments through. Course, I don’t have my email on the blog.
It looks like I installed Akismet just in time. I installed it after 3 bad spams, and I just checked my spam folder and 48 spam comments were posted today. No false positives yet.
