Primordiax is Live – April 22, 2010 – Earth Day!

After many, many years of (too frequently interrupted) development, Primordiax officially launched on Thursday, April 22, 2010. Primordiax is a hybrid text and graphical MUD/MMO with a primary focus on providing a true virtual world experience. While Primordiax does feature some traditional MMO game aspects (combat, loot, gear, etc.), that is just one part of the game. The crafting system is as deep and intricately designed as combat. Mini-games (collecting, fishing, scavenging, and more) and role playing are also enormously significant aspects of the game. Housing, clans, businesses, politics, religion, territory, etc. are all player controlled game elements. The world itself will be continually shaped and transformed by players. For example, players as a whole will consistently “level up the world” to unlock new technologies and features that can potentially affect everyone.

Primordiax is not RP required, but it is In Character Enforced (ICE). This means within the game world, characters must stay in character (IC). We do, however, have clearly separated out of character (OOC) modes of communication. To facilitate this, Primordiax has a very deep recognition system that includes nametags, introductions, dishonest introductions, etc.

I could go on and on about the game’s features, but checking out our website and wiki are your best sources of information. The amount of lore available on the wiki gives you an idea of how seriously we take the virtual world aspects of the game.

  • Neat – a new MUD-type-thing. I shall check it out.

Congrats on the launch. You’ve got alot of really interesting ideas here and it looks like a good game – one big hesitation though…why micro-transactions instead of a monthly fee like the DDO style “VIP access”?

I’ve never seen micro-transactions work at all as the primary revenue generating mechanisim for a competitive game (especially with the whole “item shop” model). Even when a game does look really good – it’s hard to justify investing time and money into it when you’re worried about other players essentially outspending you and winning.

Really? It worked for Threshold for 14 years, it worked for all the IRE games, it works for the 24 million customers of the Gamersfirst games, it works for Runes of Magic, it works for tons and tons of games. In fact, MT games outnumber subscription games both in raw numbers AND number of subscribers. It really is a superior system.

SWTOR is even considering using that model, as is DCUO (DC comics MMO).

it’s hard to justify investing time and money into it when you’re worried about other players essentially outspending you and winning.

As opposed to games where the only thing that matters is having 10+ hours a day to pump into grinding and raiding?

The non-subscription games have a huge advantage: they don’t have to waste your time just to keep subscriptions rolling in. The overwhelming majority of MT items aren’t about power anyway. They are about customization, cosmetics, access to additional content, or things that simply save you time (like xp boosters).

Thank you! I think we are one of the only new games out there that is really focusing on the virtual world aspects of an MMO as much as the “game” aspects. I hope that will attract all the people out there who are looking for more of a world experience.

  • Belated congratulations, Michael. :) Hope the game turns out well. If life gets a bit less crazy for me, I’ll have to check it out. Assuming I remember how to read my games instead of look at the pretty pictures. ;)

    Congrats!

Always happy to see another title trying new things.
