I played it for a few weeks and it was pretty much quest grind the whole way.

The only exception to that is that you can focus mainly on the bounty board quests like "gather 20 boar hides" that you can repeat. That allows you to just go and farm certain types of mobs for as long as you want and then return to town to turn in the bounty parts. That's kinda nice.

I downloaded it and have played it for the past week off and on. I don't mind quest grinding a little but if they make the whole game like this then I'm out. It can be compared to Wow in a lot of ways and it is the same concept in most ways but it also has some perks of it's own. For example I like some of the mounts better than Wow but they really should add some flying mounts in RoM. I think I'm going to stick with it for now but if there are any more letdowns like quest grinding then Im out for a while.

Here I go again... re: <a href="http://www.brighthub.com/video-games/mmo/articles/29399.aspx" rel="nofollow">quest grinding</a>:

Quest grind? Well, that's pretty much all you have to tell me and I'm out. I am absolutely sick to death of quest grinding. I'll take mob grinding any day of the week over quest grinding. I enjoy doing a few quests here and there, but only the really good ones that have a lot of time, effort, and creativity put into the story.

Well, having installed and played this game for the past two days, I have to say it does a pretty good imitation of a "free" version of WoW, with pay-for-perks. I've not played WoW in a long time so I've only got WoW (when it first came out) to compare to. RoM has a task system where every task master gives out Daily/General tasks that grant both xp and coin rewards, but RoM has a cap so that you can only turn in so many of those tasks a day.

I like that, but I still hate hate HATE having to grind quests over and over again to level, especially when those quests involve that you run from one city to another to try and find some random NPC to talk to, and then run all the way back.

I'm currently playing a Scout/Priest... which I think may be the DUMBEST most USELESS combination ever.

I installed it and played a little bit last night. It's definitely very WoW like. Many of the first quests are the obligatory "bring me 10 wolf tails" variety, where apparently only about 50% of the wolf population has tails. I haven't yet decided if this is enough to put me off playing it or not. I'm -really- tired of that type of quest, and I don't understand why it's so common. Instead of telling me to bring 10 of a 50% drop, just tell me to bring 20 of a 100% drop.

Saylah over at Mystic Worlds has some good articles on RoM. I've been meaning to check it out, but with my ever-increasing burnout, it has come at a bad time. Still, the diamond scheme bears a superficial resemblance to Puzzle Pirates' dual currency, which I'm a huge fan of, so I'm keeping an eye on the game, at least.

The UI definitely looks like WoW. I don't consider that a bad thing, for the most part. Only problem I have with WoW's basic UI is the placement of the target and player frames.

After a bit of investigation, I'm thinking about giving the game a shot. Apparently the "diamonds" you mentioned can actually be traded between players on the auction house and such. That would seem to make it possible to avoid spending money to get them, assuming you're good at MMO economics. Given I had 650+ gold in WoW on my first character by the time I was level 40, I'm interested in giving this a shot to see if I can successfully work a pay for perks game without ever actually paying for a perk.
